FOR PRACTICE & NEW IDEAS

Listen. Learn.
Make your next take.

Study the vocal, then sing with the instrumental. Or bring both tracks from your own recording into your editor for a remix.

Separate your recording

Use recordings you own or have permission to process. Separation does not grant rights to someone else’s music.

YOUR NEXT MUSIC TASK

Audio tools for your next session

Make a backing track, study an instrument or find the beat.

Bass & drums

Study a bass line with the bass extractor, then use the bass remover for a backing track you can play along with. For a closer listen to a groove, try the drum extractor.

Want more low end in the full mix? Apply bass boost on your device, compare the sound and save a WAV without uploading.

Tempo for practice

Open a saved recording in audio practice to loop a phrase, adjust speed and pitch, and export MP3 or WAV. Save your setup, then reopen the same recording or original WAV stems whenever you want to rehearse.

Estimate a recording’s tempo with the BPM finder. Bring the reading into our metronome and start a steady click for rehearsal.

Compare a file estimate with your taps in the BPM counter. No file to hand? Use tap tempo to count a live beat with your mouse, phone or spacebar.

A SIMPLE PROCESS

How to use the vocal separator

Upload your own audio, isolate vocals and download two tracks. No installation or account needed.

01

Upload your audio

Choose a mono or stereo MP3, WAV, FLAC, M4A or OGG file you own or have permission to process. Each file can be up to 10 minutes and 100 MB.

02

Separate the parts

Confirm your audio rights and select Separate audio. Keep this tab open while the vocal separator processes your file. Your results appear on this same page.

03

Listen & download

Switch between vocals and instrumental at the same playback position, adjust the listening volume, then download each WAV track. Downloads expire 55 minutes after processing finishes.

Vocal separation for karaoke, acapella and remix

KARAOKE

Remove vocals for karaoke

Remove vocals from a recording you have permission to use, then download the Instrumental WAV for karaoke or rehearsal. Compare it with the original before singing: some layered vocals or reverb may remain. Save the backing track for use in your preferred audio player.

Create a backing track
ACAPELLA

Extract an acapella from a song

Use the Vocals output to hear the singing separately from the accompaniment. An acapella extractor is useful for studying phrasing or working with your own vocal in a new arrangement. The output can contain backing vocals, reverb or traces of instruments; it is not necessarily a dry studio vocal.

Extract the vocals
REMIX

Separate vocals for a remix

Bring the vocal and instrumental WAVs from your own recording into your audio editor. Build a new arrangement around the vocal or use the instrumental as a starting point. Both files come from the same separation and can be downloaded individually.

Separate your recording
PRACTICE & TEACHING

Practice with an instrumental

Listen to the vocal to study a passage, then switch to the instrumental at the same position to sing along. Independent singers and teachers can compare the two parts without repeating the separation. Save both files before the download links expire if you want to use them in a later lesson.

TWO SIDES OF THE SAME MIX

Vocal isolator vs.
vocal remover

A vocal separator splits a recording into the voice and the music behind it. A vocal remover keeps the instrumental; a vocal isolator or acapella extractor keeps the voice.

Here, one completed separation gives you both. Choose the part that fits your project without processing the same file again.

Supported audio formats and preparation tips
Audio formatBefore you upload
MP3A compact music file. Use the clearest version you have; converting a compressed MP3 to WAV does not restore missing detail.
WAVUseful for audio-editor exports. Uncompressed recordings can be large, so check the 100 MB limit before choosing a file.
FLACLossless compressed audio. Check that the file opens in your browser and stays within the size and duration limits.
M4ACommon in audio exports. The extension alone does not ensure compatibility: your browser must be able to decode the recording.
OGGSupported when your browser can read it. If local preview fails, export a playable MP3 or WAV from your audio editor.

BEFORE YOU UPLOAD

What affects vocal isolator quality?

Separation works with the sound already in your recording. Start with the clearest available source and avoid extra compression or distortion when possible.

Reverb, layered voices and dense arrangements can leave traces of other sounds. Listen to both outputs before using them in a finished project; a clean studio vocal is not guaranteed.

Making music for a cover? Make a singing backing track and check the instrumental for traces of the original voice. Find your rehearsal pace with the local BPM Finder.

More about quality
A FEW THINGS TO KNOW

Vocal isolation & removal: FAQ

Files, quality, privacy and getting the most from your tracks.

What is a vocal isolator?

A vocal isolator separates the singing voice from the instrumental parts of an audio recording. Vocal separator, vocal splitter, vocal extractor and acapella extractor describe the same core task. You receive a vocals track and an instrumental track.

Is Vocal Separator free to use?

Two-track separation is free, with no account, email address or payment required. The free allowance is up to 5 processing jobs per browser per day, resetting at midnight UTC and tracked with an essential cookie. Confirmed failed or canceled jobs are returned to your allowance when their status is checked. Separate network safeguards and site-wide capacity limits also apply.

Which audio files can I upload?

Choose a mono or stereo MP3, WAV, FLAC, M4A or OGG file from your device. Your browser must be able to read the file. We do not accept YouTube, Spotify or other streaming links.

Can I remove vocals and keep the instrumental?

Every completed separation includes both tracks, so you can keep the instrumental, the isolated vocals, or both. Listen on this page, then download each track as a WAV file.

Will the separation be perfect?

Results depend on the recording. Dense mixes, heavy reverb and overlapping sounds can leave audible artifacts or traces of other instruments. Listen before using the files in a project. Our listening example uses a real two-track separation of one licensed excerpt, not a quality guarantee for other recordings.

What happens to my audio?

Selecting a file only previews it in your browser. After you confirm your audio rights, choosing Separate audio uploads it to private storage for processing. Uploads are temporarily stored and deleted automatically; downloads expire 55 minutes after processing finishes. The upload retention period does not extend download availability. See our privacy policy for details.

Can I use the separated audio commercially?

Only if you have the necessary rights to the source recording and its underlying content. Separation does not grant new rights or permission to publish, distribute or sell someone else’s audio.

What is the difference between a vocal isolator and a vocal remover?

They describe two sides of the same process. A vocal isolator keeps the voice; a vocal remover keeps the instrumental. A completed job here produces both, so you do not need to process the same file twice.

Can I extract an acapella from a full song?

The vocals track is the acapella output: the voice separated from the instrumental. Use an original or licensed recording and check the result for bleed or reverb. An acapella extractor cannot guarantee a studio-clean vocal from every mix.

What is the longest audio file I can separate?

The free tool accepts one file at a time, up to 10 minutes long and 100 MB. Your browser checks the duration before upload, and the server checks the actual audio again before processing. Trim longer recordings in an audio editor before selecting them; this page does not include a cutter.

What if separation fails or the audio sounds wrong?

If a connection fails after upload, use Check existing job to retrieve its status without submitting a second separation. Refreshing this browser can recover your latest job using an essential temporary cookie; recovery needs cookies to be enabled. Download results within 55 minutes after processing finishes. Confirmed failed or canceled jobs are returned to your browser allowance when their status is checked. If a submission cannot be confirmed, it may still run and remains reserved; we never automatically submit it again. If the result has artifacts, try a clearer source recording.

Why is the original missing after a refresh?

Your original preview comes from a local file on your device. A page refresh can recover the separated tracks, but cannot restore that local preview. You can still listen to and download both WAV outputs without separating the file again.

Can I use the vocal isolator on my phone?

The page works in modern mobile browsers without installing an app. Choose audio from your device’s file picker, keep the tab open during processing, and use the individual track download buttons when ready. File preview and saving behavior depend on your browser; MP3 or WAV is a useful fallback if a format will not open.
